Activation Process

VoLTE feature shall be auto activated for all eligible Idea subscribers. You can activate it by sending a SMS ‘ACT VOLTE’ to 12345

a. Pre Activation Requisite

i. Handset should be among the compatible devices

ii. Handset software should be updated

iii. VoLTE Switch should be enabled on the device

1. What is VoLTE?

Idea VoLTE (Voice over LTE) is an advanced service through which customers can experience HD quality crystal clear voice with faster call setup time and reduced background noise. While using VoLTE services, users can continue to have un-interrupted high-speed 4G internet experience.

2. What is the difference between VoLTE and normal voice calling?

Idea VoLTE users will experience HD voice quality. Idea customers with VoLTE services can experience superior call quality and faster call setup time compared to normal voice calls. Voice conversations sound more natural with less background noise compared to standard voice calls. However to experience true HD voice quality, both the calling and the receiving party should have handsets that support VoLTE.

3. Do my VoLTE calls consume data from my data plan?

No. Idea VoLTE calls will be charged as per the customer's existing voice plan / pack and would not consume any data. Even after data pack is over, VoLTE calls will continue as usual.

4. Will my normal voice calling still work after activating VoLTE?

When there is no 4G coverage, then normal voice calls (over 2G/3G Network) will happen instead of VoLTE.

5. Do I need to have an active data connection to use VoLTE?

No. Active data connection is not required for using VoLTE. However network auto mode (4G/3G/2G) must be selected.

6. Will I be able to use VoLTE if I switch off data on my SIM?

Yes. VoLTE can be used even if the data is switched off.

7. What all services are available through VoLTE?

  • High Definition voice calling
  • Faster call connection time – calls will connect faster in almost half the time it takes to connect on a 2G/3G network
  • Seamless switch between Voice & Video calls during an ongoing call
  • Simultaneously calling and data browsing at 4G speeds
  • Along with above, call management services like call forwarding, call waiting, call hold and call line identification/restriction are also offered.

8. What are the benefits of VoLTE?

HD voice calling, less time to connect to the called party, less background noise.

9. How can I identify a VoLTE call?

  • Android users can see HD/VoLTE icon on the top bar of the screen, which indicates that their phone is ready for VoLTE calls. For iOS users there is no visual representation. However, they can verify VoLTE-readiness through the settings under mobile data.
  • For iOS: Settings -> Mobile Data -> Mobile Data Options -> Enable 4G -> Turn on Voice & Data
  • For Android: Settings -> Settings -> Mobile Network -> Turn on VoLTE call *These settings may differ from one handset manufacturer to another.

10. How do I know that my VoLTE is activated?

If activated via ACT VOLTE then the customer would receive SMS on successful activation. While making a call, the customer will see HD/VoLTE icon on the top bar of the screen, indicating VoLTE is activated

11. Does my phone support VoLTE calls? / How do I check if my phone supports VoLTE?

The simplest way to this is by sending SMS CHECK to 12345. This will confirm the Idea VoLTE capability of the handset

12. Do I need to make any changes in my device settings for enabling VoLTE?

To enjoy our VoLTE services, please follow the steps given below:
1. Verify compatibility of your smartphone model with Idea VoLTE services (List of devices given in the above section)
2. Ensure that your handset has been upgraded with the latest software provided by your handset manufacturer
3. Ensure that you are using a 4G compatible SIM
4. Verify that the VoLTE voice calling feature has been enabled on your smartphone –
For iOS: Settings -> Mobile Data -> Mobile Data Options -> Enable 4G -> Turn on Voice & Data
For Android: Settings -> Settings -> Mobile Network -> Turn on VoLTE call
5. For users with Dual SIM handsets, Idea SIM should be inserted in the SIM slot with data capability and network mode as “4G” or “LTE”. Follow these steps to enable the same – Settings -> Sim networks -> Preferred network type -> “4G” or “LTE”
Settings may differ from one handset manufacturer to another. In case you need assistance, please call 12345.

13. Do I need a special pack to use VoLTE?

No. Customer's existing plan will support all the VoLTE services

14. Is VoLTE available in my location?

15. I am a dual SIM customer. Can I still use VoLTE?

Yes. The customer just has to ensure that the Idea 4G SIM is inserted in the SIM slot 1 with data capability and select the 4G/3G/2G (Auto) as the preferred network mode. Following steps are to be followed to enable the same – Settings -> SIM networks -> Preferred network type -> 4G/3G/2G.
Upon verification of the above, the handset should show 4G with HD/VoLTE icon on top bar of the screen, indicating that the device is ready for VoLTE calls.

16. I am calling a friend who doesn't have a VoLTE supported handset, can I still make VoLTE calls to him/her?

Yes, the customer can make VoLTE calls to any phone on any other network.

17. Can I make a call and browse internet at the same time while using VoLTE services?

Yes, the customer can browse internet and make calls at the same time while using VoLTE services

18. Is signal strength critical to VoLTE services?

VoLTE service is dependent on the 4G coverage in that area, so signal strength would be critical for using the service

19. How do I set my APN for accessing Idea VoLTE services?

APN would be auto set in the phone. Please ensure that the customer is using the updated version of the mobile operating system on your phone. No Manual setting is required for the same.

20. Will I be able to make video calls via VoLTE?

Yes, a subscriber can do video calling with the handset supporting the Video Calling over VoLTE feature.

21. Can I use VoLTE while on roaming (National / International)?

National Roaming: If the circle where the customer is in while roaming supports VoLTE then the customer can use VoLTE services (provided VoLTE services are already active on customers number). On the other hand, if the home circle has VoLTE services and the Roaming circle doesn't have VoLTE services, then the customer won't be able to use VoLTE services while roaming. If the Home circle doesn't have VoLTE services, while the roaming circle has VoLTE services, then the customer can't use VoLTE services.
International Roaming: No, Idea VoLTE services are not available on International Roaming.

22. Which are the handsets supporting Idea VoLTE?

All the handsets that support Idea VoLTE is updated in the webpage

23. Do I need to change my 4G sim to use VoLTE services?

Yes. 4G SIM is a pre - requisite to use VoLTE services. If the customer already has 4G SIM, then there is no need to upgrade SIM.

24. Will VoLTE be activated automatically on my number?

Yes. If VoLTE is launched in the circle, and if the handset supports VoLTE then it'll be automatically activated for the customer

25. Will VoLTE services be used if I am using 3G/2G data network?

No. VoLTE services can be used only in 4G data network.

26. Will VoLTE services be available in ICR arrangement?

VoLTE services are available in Idea circles only initially (No ICR arrangement).

27. Will VoLTE services be available if I switch off the data services on my handset?

Yes. You can still make and receive calls in VoLTE even if the data is switched off.

Terms and Conditions for VoLTE

  • 4G VOLTE and 3G video calls would be charged as 2.5p/s for home network and 5p/s for roam network.
  • 4G VOLTE voice call will be charged as per your existing pack rate.
  • Idea VoLTE (Voice over LTE) is an advanced service through which customers can experience HD quality crystal clear voice with faster call setup time. While using VoLTE services, users can continue to have un-interrupted high-speed 4G internet experience
  • Idea VoLTE calls will be charged as per your existing voice plan / pack and would not consume any additional data. The VoLTE Services can be availed on compatible smartphones. For a complete list of compatible smartphones, please refer to the FAQs
  • Idea VoLTE Services are currently available only in select areas (within 4G coverage), for the list of areas kindly visit the website - Idea cellular
  • Calls made to international numbers will be charged at the existing prices as applicable on the customer’s number
  • Calls made using Idea’s VoLTE Services to any other network or number not having VoLTE Services would be possible and will be charged for at the existing prices/ plans as applicable to other networks for the duration of the call.
  • The Terms and Conditions of usage of Idea services continue to be applicable to you as a subscriber of Idea’s network.
  • Idea will be entitled to postpone, suspend, modify or cancel the VoLTE Services or any aspect thereof, at any time with or without notice, for any reason, including, but not limited to, acts of God, force majeure, technical difficulties, or any other reasons beyond Idea’s reasonable control. Idea will not be liable to compensate any customer for any reason dire whatsoever arising from Idea’s providing VoLTE Services.

Idea’s wireless telecommunication network is available on an ‘as is where is available’ basis and Idea makes no representation, guarantee or warranty regarding the availability, fitness for any specified purpose or error free operation of the network.   • Deactivation of Value Added Service (VAS): To cancel a VAS subscription, SMS "STOP" to 155223 (toll free) and select the service you wish to deactivate OR Dial 155223 (toll free) and select the service you wish to deactivate.
